How to Clean Vinyl Siding
The vinyl siding on your house is one of the first things everyone sees and is also a big investment when it comes to your house. It is important to keep your vinyl siding well maintained and clean. Here are some tips to help you.
The first thing you need to do is collect the cleaning supplies you will need for the job. You will need a garden hose or pressure washer, bucket, long handled brush, dish washing soap or laundry detergent, and a ladder. You can either buy an electric pressure washer or rent one, or you can even use your garden hose.
Cover any flowers, plants or other landscaping near the house with plastic so they don’t get soap all over them. Also be sure that all doors and windows are completely closed before you start cleaning the vinyl siding.
Next, use a garden hose or power washer to rinse the dirt and debris off of the vinyl siding. Do not have the power washer on at full blast, as that might damage the vinyl siding.
For your cleaning solution you can use a dish washing liquid or laundry detergent. Mix your cleaner in with warm water in a bucket.
To clean the vinyl siding, take your bucket and long handled brush and use the ladder to get to the top of the house. Start cleaning the vinyl siding at the top of house, working your way down. Using your long handled brush, scrub the siding from side to side. If you encounter some tough stains or mildew, you can add some bleach to your cleaning solution.
You should scrub the house in sections, rinsing the cleaning solution off as you work. You don’t want the soap to dry on the siding. Continue following this procedure until you have all the vinyl siding scrubbed and rinsed off.
Cleaning vinyl siding is a fairly easy process. It just takes a few hours of your time, so make sure to clean your vinyl siding at least a few times a year to keep the siding well maintained and clean. It will keep your house looking good for not only yourself, but your neighbors and visitors as well. If you decide you don’t want to clean the vinyl cleaning yourself, you can also hire a power washing service to do it for you. Either way, keeping the vinyl siding clean is important, so don’t forget to do it.
